Bayer Materialscience
consolidates aromatic
polyisocyanate production
Citing a decrease in demand for Desmodur CB aromatic polyisocyanate in the NAFTA region, Bayer MaterialScience has announced plans to close its production facility in New Martinsville, WV by the end of the first quarter of 2005.
Desmodur CB is used as a raw material for general industrial, wood and magnetic tape coatings. In the future, Bayer will supply equivalent products to the North American market under the Desmodur L name. Desmodur L products are manufactured at Bayer’s Leverkusen, Germany plant. Bayer expects that all affected workers will assume other responsibilities within the New Martinsville site, where the company will continue to manufacture thermoplastic urethanes, polyurethane dispersions and polyurethane raw materials.
